So, you’ve finally come to your senses and realised that you want (no, need!) to get a fire pit to make your garden or patio complete.  But then you’re faced with one very real problem – where to buy a fire pit?

The good news is there’s no shortage of options when it comes to buying a fire pit.  Some are better than others, we grant you, but in this article, we will go through all the options you have and tell you exactly where to buy the right fire pit for you.

Where Can I Buy a New Fire Pit?

There are several options, if you are looking for quality then we recommend buying either from a specialist fire pit store which is selling multiple brands or from a specialist one brand store.

The other option is buying from a general store either on the high street or from an online general store like Amazon or Wayfair. The general stores stores tend to cater for those seeking the cheaper fire pits.

What to Consider When Buying a Fire Pit?

There are a couple of key factors you should think about when looking for a fire pit as these will influence where you are best to buy yours.  Let’s dig into them…

Size of Your Outdoor Space

This might sound like an obvious one, but the size of your outdoor space is very important when thinking about buying a fire pit.  Do you want to sit around the fire pit in 360 degrees?  Do you have a small outdoor space or a large one?  Are you looking for something that can work indoors?

Knowing the answer to these questions will tell you whether you can look for a generic bowl fire pit, or something a bit more specialised and tailored for your needs.

Type of Fuel

The fuel source will also determine where to buy a fire pit:

  • Wood burning fire pit – this is your most basic fire pit and you can buy one just about anywhere.  They’re usually an open metal bowl that you build your fire in.  As simple as that!
  • Gas Fire Pit – Gas is a little bit more specialised, though still widely available.  A specialist store or a single brand store that focuses on gas are your best options here.  You’ll find it harder to find one (at least a good one) at a more general store.
  • Bioethanol fire pits – the most environmentally friendly fire pits, and the best for both outdoor and indoor.  For these, you will definitely want a specialised store and a good one at that.  Single brand stores that focus on bioethanol are also a good call here.

Where to Buy A Fire Pit

Now let’s actually break down all the places you can go to find your fire pit.  We’ve broken them down into three categories to make things a little easier to digest; general store, single-brand stores, specialist stores.

Single Brand Stores

A single Brand store can be a great place to buy a fire pit if you know exactly what you are looking for or have a particular brand that you like.  As the name suggests, they are the specific stores dedicated to one brand (their own) which has its own pros and cons.

  • Pros: Single brand stores will have the entire range of products that the brand makes, and you should find that any sales representative you speak to is an expert in that brand.  Talking to the company directly can also sometimes save you money.
  • Cons: They have one focus and that’s their brand, rather than your specific needs.  One brand doesn’t cater to all and if you shop at a store that only has one brand then you may be missing out on something better elsewhere.

The top options:

Black Country Metal Works – They have an interesting range of iron fire pits that simple, functional, and well made.  They offer a bespoke service, so if there is something in particular, you’re looking for they may well be able to make it.

Brightstar Fires – Gas fire pit specialists, Brightstar are CE approved and British manufacturers.  They don’t have the biggest range in the world, but they’re a company trying to bring something unique to the market.

Specialist Stores

Again, fairly self-explanatory, we know, but specialist stores focus on selling fire pits as a speciality, but aren’t tied to one brand, and instead offer a wide range of products from many brands.  They are designed to help you find exactly the right fire pit rather than just the right one from a certain brand.

  • Pros: The widest range of options that will usually cover all fuel types and materials.  They are a great source of unbiased opinion because they aren’t tied to one brand, and usually have an in-depth knowledge of the entire industry.
  • Cons: Some are better than others, as will always be the case, but in general specialist stores are the best place to buy a fire pit. (Yes, we are a specialist store haha!)

The top options:

Firepit.co.uk – We are incredibly proud of our range of options and the brands we work with.  Our focus is on quality above all else so that you can be confident you are getting a fire pit that will last you a long time.

General Stores

By general shops what we mean is physical or online shops that sell multiple items like Amazon, Wayfair, garden centres, that sort of thing.

  • Pros: General stores tend to stock cheaper items than specialist stores or single-brand stores.  They also tend to have quick delivery (like Amazon), or you can pick them up instantly (like a garden centre or B&Q).
  • Cons: With cheaper fire pits the quality certainly suffers.  They tend to lack the durability that better brands and better materials offer.  You’ll also often find that general stores have a much smaller selection, and what you’ll probably find is a few different variations of a fire pit bowl, and that’s about it.

The top general/high street options:

Amazon – Of course Amazon has fire pits, it has just about everything else in the world too.  Their speedy delivery is always a win, but as we’ve said, be warned about quality.  Amazon does very little to actually vet what’s sold on their platform, particularly from third-party sellers.

Wayfair – Is another solid option if you are looking for budget fire pits.  They have a range of options and, as you would imagine from Wayfair, a fairly good selection of designs.

Costco – You may not have thought of Costco but they also stock just about everything you can imagine, and fire pits are certainly on the list.  As with everything in Costco the range on offer is very limited and depends on what deals they have managed to pull on the other end.  Non the less they tend to have better quality products, though these will also come with a much heftier price tag!

B&Q – B&Q has a very limited range of only budget fire pits.  We’ll be honest, they’re not the most exciting, but if you’re looking for something cheap as a starter fire pit then they may have something for you.

The list here is pretty endless - you have garden centres like Dobbies or budget stores like the Range that will also stock fire pits.  You can even get fire pits on Etsy.

Final Thoughts

Where to buy a fire pit?  Hopefully, we’ve shown you that the answer is just about anywhere!  There are a lot of stores both online and offline that offer fire pits, which is great as you are pretty much guaranteed to find exactly what you want!

Just because you can get fire pits anywhere doesn’t mean you should, however, and our advice would always be to look for a specialist store that works with a range of brands and has a wide variety of options for you, both in terms of design, function, and fuel source.
